Some of the changes since oddcastv2 :


  • All the UI code has been rewritten, got rid of wxWindows, and now am using MFC dialogs for everything.

  • Multiple encoders! Add an arbitrary (limited only by CPU) number of encoders of varying types and settings.

  • Support for LAME (via lame_enc.dll), AAC (via libfaac.dll), and Ogg Vorbis. (MP3 and AAC require purchase of an encoding license)

  • Addition of a proper digital peak meter. If you think that the meter is always pegged, then you are probably right..Try looking at most music today in CoolEdit and you'll see what I mean... :)

  • Metadata - you can manually enter metadata as you could in oddcastv2, but I've added the ability to grab the metadata info from either a file or a URL. Useful for those who have external metadata systems.

  • Live Recording - I've factored out the live recording and now you can enable/disable it without disconnecting/reconnecting your encoders. I've also added a dropdown which allows you to select which device to record from, as well as a slider for specifying the recording volume. Consequently, live recording works *much* better now.

  • Auto-connect - this will connect all defined encoders at plugin startup (delayed 5 seconds).

  • Unicode - I think I've solved all the unicode problems in both winamp and foobar. If you have files that aren't being displayed properly let me know..

  • Foobar meta tag support. If you are using foobar2000 and are encoding in vorbis, then oddcast will take all the fields defined for the track and add them as vorbis comments. If you are encoding in MP3 or AAC, you are still stuck with just artist and title, sorry, it's the nature of the format.

    Winamp updated their version of FLAC to 1.1.4, and so I had to keep in sync. You MUST use the version of libflac provided with the oddcastV3 installer since the version distributed with winamp seemed to disable the use of OggFLAC (how rude!). I've also included a patch from wiesl so that metadata changes are reflected as soon as you hit connect rather than having to wait for a song change... yay for more user contribs!

    Added support for oggFLAC streaming. A note about this, currently as the release of this plugin, there are very very few clients that actually support oggFLAC streaming. The only one I found was on the windows platform here : http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/. Installing those filters will allow you to play oggFLAC streams from within Windows Media Player. Currently Winamp and Foobar2k do NOT work. Hopefully this will change in the future. Also, streaming oggFLAC is really only good for LAN streaming as it is lossless and very high bitrate. There is currently no way to "configure" any oggFLAC options. Also, you need to use the latest Icecast (2.3.0) in order to support oggFLAC streaming.

    I've now added the ability to choose which soundcard to use if you are doing live streaming. A few people have asked for this.

    I've upgraded the aotuv DLLs to the latest (4.5) version.

    I've bumped the minor version number since I've added a few rather decent size updates. Three to be exact, and they are :

  • AAC+ encoding. Oddcast now supports encoding in AAC+ using the enc_aacplus.dll that is now shipped with Winamp. You will not be able to broadcast in AAC+ without this DLL. I cannot legally distribute this encoder just like lame_enc.dll. The good news is that if you are using the winamp plugin version of oddcast you will probably already have this dll. If you are using Foobar or the standalone version, then you will need to copy this dll into the appropriate place. If you can pick "AAC Plus" from the encoder type dropdown, then you have it installed properly.

  • Vorbis bitrate management. Now that the bitrate management capabilites of vorbis are fixed, I've re-enabled it in oddcast. This will provide a way for you to limit your bitrate much better than using qualities. There is a new checkbox (Use Bitrate) that triggers this mode.

  • Oddcast now ships with the AOTUVB4 vorbis encoding dlls. These are *specially* tuned for low bitrates. And actually quite good at that. Try using quality = -2 or -1 to trigger these fantastic new modes.
